Our original statement of shared values is contained in the Declaration of Independence.   The key portion reads:

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.

It is generally understood that to state these values in modern terms, the word “men should be replaced with a broader term for humanity.  So, for our purposes, these values are restated:

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all humans are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among people, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.

It is our view, that the primary function of government is to secure these rights, and to help navigate the inevitable conflicts between them.
